What's the Difference?

I've been reading through 1 Kings and 2 Kings and I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between today and the time these books were written. You're probably thinking, "A whole lot is different! They rode in chariots and we ride in cars and trucks. They worshipped at a Temple once or twice a year, we go to church every week, etc." Yes, those are differences.

But the difference I'm wondering about is with respect to the power of the prophets Elijah and Elisha. These guys were some powerful men of God. The Spirit of God was all in them!

This morning I'm reading about the wealthy and hospitable woman who gives Elisha and his servant Gehazi a place to stay whenever they came through. She even convinced her husband to build an addition onto their house for the prophet!

Elijah was appreciative of her hospitality and wanted to know what he could for her. The servant let Elisha know that the woman had no child. So something clicked in Elisha's head and he let the woman know that one year from that day she would be holding a baby in her arms.

Sure enough, the baby came as Elisha had indicated. The boy grew and went to the fields with his father. He got sick while he was out with his daddy. His father sent him back home to his mother. They boy sat with his mother until he expired in her arms.
