Not Another Layer

It's winter. And we are told to dress in layers in winter. You know, pull out the long johns, right?

But Paul seems to suggest that layering is counterproductive in the Christian walk. In Colossians 3:8-10 he suggest that we take off everything else when we are ready to put on the new man in Christ. He says, "But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:"

We don't need to try to hold onto to our old habits and worldly practices while sprinkling a hint of religiosity on top of them. No, we need to strip down. And then put on the new man.

As we head into the new year, how about it, my friend? Time to let go of some stuff? Think you can release some things? How about letting go of some excess baggage that's preventing you from putting on the "new man"? It's the last few hours of 2011. Think about it. To borrow a phrase from DeWayne Woods: Let Go and Let God. If you do, while I can't guarantee you a Happy New Year, I'm sure that you'll have a blessed one.
