Ah . . . Hope!

On Tuesday night, Keith Crego and Gloria Grantham shared with the community why each of them should be superintendent of the Chester Upland School District.

It was emphatically clear that the community favored Dr. Gloria J. Grantham, a 62-year old career EDUCATOR over Mr. Keith Crego, a 34-year old business man of some significant success. And the control board made the right decision yesterday in selecting her as the next superintendent.

Chester needs an educator, an instructional leader. Mr. Crego may well be valuable on the staff of the district as, say, the chief financial officer. But the person at the helm needs to be someone who can lead our children to proficiency and beyond proficiency, to academic excellence. Our children need to be able to compete in a global economy.

Welcome, Dr. Gloria J. Grantham, to the Chester community. We look forward to working with you to once again make Chester a livable community for all of its citizens.
